National Assembly of Sheep Breeders – the heart of Bulgarian animal husbandry
The National Assembly of Sheep Breeders brings together the elite of Bulgarian animal husbandry, with representatives of sheep, goats, horses, shepherd and herding dogs demonstrating herding skills. This is a unique opportunity for young and old to learn about different breeds and discover more about the traditional livelihood of Bulgarian villagers.
Additionally, the assembly offers an exhibition of agricultural machinery, a market for organic products and eco foods, as well as tastings of delicious cheeses, kashkaval, and sausages. Every year, the best products made from sheep and goat milk compete for a gold medal for taste and quality.
In the rhythm of folklore music, dances, and fire dancers
The National Folklore Competition “My Lamb Has Baa-ed” gathers over 300 groups from all over Bulgaria, bringing the stage to life with music and dances accompanied by the sounds of bagpipes and the clear voices of Bulgarian talents.
If you are a fan of folk music, do not miss the evening open-air concerts and fire-dancing shows that will leave you breathless. On the hills near the monastery, as the sunset colours the sky, thousands join the traditional horo dance, and Bulgarian performers like Galena, Petya Paneva, and “101 Kaba Gaidi” will immerse you in the magic of traditional and contemporary folk music.
